It’s All About The Love

Updated: Jan 31, 2021

Do you know and realize that you are unconditionally loved? If you know it, do you really believe it?  And I don’t mean intellectually. Throw your intellect out the window, close your eyes, breathe and feel the unconditional love. You don’t have to do anything to deserve it, just be. Soak that in for a moment.

Most evil, negative thoughts and deeds stem from not getting this. We spend a lot of time, especially in the religious community trying to convince you to conform so you can be accepted and loved and that is simply wrong and smells cliquish. It’s just wrong because it’s not true. You are already loved. Unconditionally. And every good thing will flow from that fact, when you get it.  When you feel loved and accepted you are empowered. But when you feel judged you feel weak, powerless and fearful. When you feel judged you either become a people pleaser which is fake or you go around with a chip on your shoulder that boomerangs and hits you in the head. When you feel weak you act out in self-destructive  ways to show yourself strong and in control, which couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is you are out of control, totally. When you feel powerless you give up, give in or conform and are susceptible to being manipulated big time. And when in fear you lie to yourself, to others, you lash out, you hurt before you’re hurt, you hide, you’re angry, defensive and hard to be around or you become controlling and demand respect from those weaker than you. Which really isn’t respect it’s just more fear disguised.

When Jesus walked the earth He loved without hesitation. Those who were open to it looked into His eyes and felt it. His love was sure, non judgmental and complete. It made grown men leave their jobs and risk their lives just to spread the message of His love. It empowered women who were looked down on in their community and culture to be better and live up to the expectations He has for their lives and not the expectations of those who never cared for them anyway. His love healed. His love brought Him to earth and caused Him to willingly lay down His life for these people as well as for those who didn’t get Him, couldn’t relate to Him, despised Him and eventually killed Him. But that never mattered to Him. The only thing that mattered was the unconditional love He felt for them all. The only thing that matters now is the unconditional love He still feels for us all. The word love is thrown around a lot but you know it when you feel it. Everyone who doesn’t feel it is in search of it or numbing themselves because they can’t find it. There’s a song (from one of my favorite movies “Urban Cowboy”) that has a line in it that says “I was looking for love in all the wrong places”.  Looking for love and acceptance from people who can’t love themselves let alone you. You can’t bring unconditional love to the table unless you feel it yourself. Can we fake it? Yes. But do we feel it when we fake it? No. When love is “conditional” we feel it and it doesn’t feel like love at all. The basis for our very existence is love and the further away from that we are the more miserable we are.

I don’t care if you have been a Christian for forty years or don’t know Jesus at all, I challenge you to close your eyes and tell Him you don’t feel the love, tell Him you have been faking it. Tell Him you feel like you have to earn it. Tell Him you feel like you are coming up short and you don’t measure up. Tell Him you are demanding of others because you have a hole no one can fill. Tell Him you are your harshest critic and find it hard to love yourself. Tell Him that you feel if people would just do and be what you want them to do and be then and only then you could be truly happy and feel loved. Tell Him you are looking for someone to make you feel safe, secure and worthy. And tell Him when you can’t find it or you don’t feel it, it makes you, anxious, needy, worried, angry, crazy, defiant, hard, belligerent, sad, depressed and hopeless. I dare you to tell Him and wait for His answer. Then just relax. Don’t get caught up in how. You don’t have to do anything else. Just release and allow His Love to rain down on you and wash away your fears, your concerns, your hurts, your insecurities, your issues. He will speak directly to you. His message will be tailored only for you. And will be communicated in a way you and He will understand. It will be personal……and all about the love.
